In Roosenberg by the Estonian artist Ingel Vaikla we meet four nuns and their daily rituals. They are the last inhabitants of the modernist monastery of the Marian sisters of Francis in Waasmunster, which was built in 1975 by the Dutch architect and Benedictine Dom Hans Van der Laan. In their specially designed robes, the nuns become a part of the place and form almost extensions of the architecture and the interior. Through the residents, the filmmaker introduces us to the different rooms of the building, the religious and daily functions of the architecture and how it takes shape through light and sound. Rehearsal and the alienating use of environmental sounds give the monastery an almost extraterrestrial quality. The screening is followed by a conversation with filmmaker Ingel Vaikla.
